How many ADUs can I build on my property in California?
For single-family properties, you can typically build one ADU and one Junior ADU (Junior ADU is a smaller unit ,up to 500 sq.ft, created within the existing home, such as by converting a garage or bedroom.) For multifamily properties, you may add up to eight ADUs and convert up to 25% of existing units into JADUs. For example, if you have a 12-unit apartment building, you can convert up to 3 garages into JADUs depending on local zoning. Always check with your city for specific regulations.
